Analyses of Family-Environmental Factors Affecting Game Addiction among Adolescents : Focusing on Families` Economic, Cultural, and Social Capital

|
This study aimed to understand the current status of adolescence internet game addiction, which is widely spread amongst youth, in terms of social and demographic characteristics. This study was conducted based on data from Korean Survey on the Online Game and Family Leisure Activities of Youth and Children by National Youth Policy Institute in 2009. Frequency analysis and path analysis were used to analyze the data. It was found that the types of conversation with parents, which was 2.8%, influenced the most on adolescence game addiction. Also, parents¡¯ education, family finances(¥â=0.270, C.R.=26.087, p<0.05), leisure satisfaction((¥â=0.375, C.R.=0.166, p<0.05), lack of conversation with parents(¥â=0.686, C.R.= 4.606, p<0.05) and game addiction were meaningfully correlated. The result of this study indicated that the adolescence game addiction was affected by the level of social capital in the family. In addition, cultural capital affected on it in some degree reaffirming the importance of social factor.
